Dentist, Groceries, Cupcakes, Groceries, Groceries, Cleaning, Sushi

That's my day today.

Molly and Paige had their first ever dental appointment at the dental school.  Eden and Leila went to a friend's house for a tea party.  Molly was a little nervous at first but was brave and had a good experience.  Paige didn't like it so much, but with two teeth, it was short and sweet and over before she knew it.

When we went to the car after the dentist appointment I saw Molly doing this and asked what she was doing, she was "flossing Arial's teeth".

I then needed to go grocery shopping.  Eden has been thinking for MONTHS what her favorite dinner meal would be for her birthday because she had so many to choose from.  So, I told her that for her birthday she could tell me all her favorites and I would make them during the month.  I got the list and I went grocery shopping.

Her list:

Nachos
Baked Potato Bar
Gnocchi Soup
Do-It-Yourself Sushi
Chili (with lots of toppings)
and Winger's Chicken Salad

When we got home, I had to start making some cupcakes....because of course our babysitter, Elif, was coming and my kids find it necessary to have a "theme" for babysitting night.  Tonight's theme was "Cupcake Wars" where they wanted to decorate their own cupcakes.

So, I got cooking.

I even took it upon myself to make some marshmallow fondant in several different colors.

After reading over my grocery list, I realized that I ran out of sticky rice for sushi making.  I struggled to find some.  There was a little at the regular grocery store but I wasn't quite willing to pay the price of an arm and leg to get it.

To the Asian market I went.

I had never been to the Asian market in Kansas City before.  I had been looking forward to going there.  It was enjoyable...at first.

Then....Paige decided she DID NOT want to sit nicely in the cart but instead run around and try to poke the dead fish and crabs.

Then...it was quite a grueling event of trying to figure out which rice was Japanese sticky rice from many workers who didn't speak any English, phone calls to family members, and close inspection of rice with hardly any labels...I came home with a bag of rice (that I hope works) and a bag of treats for the girls.

We then went to Costco, which was somewhat nearby.

I needed a few more items.

I made it a point to be quick through Costco because time was running short before the babysitter came and I knew there was still a lot to be done.

We went home and cleaned the house.

By this time, my kids were actually doing surprisingly well.

I, on the other hand, was losing my mind.

One of those days where the Cleaning Monster comes out of me.

"RRAWR!  MUST HAVE CLEAN HOUSE!  CHILDREN MUST CLEAN!  RAWRR!"
(and the children at some point cry for their mother to return)

It was something like that...

Then, I got dinner ready for the girls (baked potato bar) and they ate.

Elif came during the worst moment of the day when we were all going crazy, yelling and crying.

She saved the day.

We needed a change in scenery and something fun in our lives.

I went out on a double date with some friends of ours, the Thornes.  The sushi was AMAZING.  And we had a blast just talking.  We even got to sit in a booth where we took off our shoes and sat cross-legged on a cushion.  Living the dream.

Best picture we could get....

Not to mention that we ate sushi....that moved.

Did you see it move?  It actually moved a lot and the movie doesn't seem to capture the craziness of it all.  It is not alive.  I think it was called Magic Sushi.  We didn't know it was going to move until we got it.  I can't remember exactly how it moves, but it has to do with heat that comes up and moves these thin sheets.

And I came home to the kids asleep, a plate of cupcakes they had made, and Elif telling me that they had a good time and were so tired by all the activities of the day that they ASKED to go to bed after falling asleep while reading books at EIGHT.
